Abstract
Increasing attention is being paid to differences in health-related outcomes among racial and ethnic groups in the United States. Inequalities in access to medical care, procedures, and mortality are active areas of clinical and epidemiologic investigation. As the population ages and requirements for critical care resources escalate, more information is needed about critical care outcomes. Unfortunately, limited data are available on health care disparities pertinent to critical care outcomes. Such information would be useful in improving the quality and process of care for critically ill individuals.
